June project #2

Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get it from all over.... Facebook, JoAnn Crafts, Pinterest....
I can spend hours looking for ideas or sometimes they just fall in front of me.
A friend of mine shared this on her Facebook page in early June and of course it was one of those must do projects.
I saw this one morning and made sure to send it to myself in a message, so I could refer back to it at a later date.....
**Note: not my photo - idea from Angel Mecham**

Well, that later date turned in to that afternoon.
I was chatting with my neighbor who babysits for us and she mentioned she was going to church camp the following Monday and had to figure out what to take because clothing restrictions were in place.
Let me tell you, have you tried shopping for girls shorts lately???
They do not make shorts that are long enough and my daughter is only 6. There is no way that they pass the fingertips test.
So I told her about this photo I had seen and since I had my sewing machine out for Project #1 (see that post HERE), I figured why not just switch over.... Easy Peasy - it won't take long.
And actually, this time I turned out to be right.....
So off we go on a supply trip to JoAnn Crafts...... again :)
She picked out a couple of fat quarters that she liked and then I had her try on all the jeans and measure where we wanted to alter them at.
Yes, all very technical.... Sharpie marker and all.
Remember, my motto for June "Measuring isn't an exact science."

Here is the first set that she picked out. I knew she had a love for all things Paris themed and she found the 1 and only fat quarter in the place of this design..... I wish there was more. I'd go buy some more because let me tell you, I'd find something to create with it....
Composition cover....??? Possibilities are endless....

I will tell you that since I'm not a technical sewer & just play it by ear... that for a teenage girl or older, the fat quarter is not quite enough to be able to have the cute little tie on the side.
But you know what, it worked.
Thank goodness, since this was the one and only Paris themed fat quarter.

And Shorts #2 - I had seen them with lace before on pinterest or even cut the sweater sleeves off and sew lace on them to make boot cuffs.....
I think these turned out pretty darn cute.

And pair #3.... she loves the color red. Since I had learned that the fat quarter was not big enough, I showed her the other 2 pairs and then made a return to JoAnn Crafts and just purchased a bit of fabric off a bolt. And it worked well to give the length for the ties on the ends.

So thank you Bobbi Mangas for re-posting this photo on Facebook, you had perfect timing....
Another project complete & definitely one I will be doing again.
Perfect for all those jeans that get holes in them or the shorts that just need a bit of extra length.

  1. These are REALLY REALLY cute, Elly! You did a great job and I love that you gave her some length. I don't like how short girls shorts are these days.

  2. These are so cute, I think I need a pair myself! When I was younger I had trouble finding shorts long enough, too. Everything was super short, or TOO long almost like capri pants (defeating the point of shorts). Your daughter is lucky for a mama like you!
