I was not quite sure how to make a Minion hat.... I saw such cute ideas on Pinterest and so simple.
My first idea was just to get 4 yellow plastic construction hats and add the eyes....
My first idea was just to get 4 yellow plastic construction hats and add the eyes....
Yes, so simple.
We had just gotten a few of them from a kid's Big Truck day, why oh why, did the kid's have to destroy them??
So off to the Party store to see if we can find some.... guess what - they have NONE!
Yikes!
Yikes!
So once again, I'm scouring Pinterest for ideas.
And I found this idea from FleeceFun.com.
Let me tell you.... Sew Easy!!!
They had a pattern that I could print out and everything!
Easy Peasy!
And here is the Minion hair... at first I forgot it, since it wasn't my original plan... it slipped my mind, but it was so easy to rip a few stitches and then insert it and sew over it again.
I found a printable eye pdf HERE on Tidbits & Twine's blog & we have mason jar lids around the house because my husband is into canning.....
I sprayed 4 of the cruddy looking ones with gray primer paint, sewed a black stripe around the hat and connected it to the eyeball with a few hand stitches.
I hot glued the jar lids in behind the eye balls, so it was sure to stay put.
And wallah! Here are our Minion hats to complete our costumes.
The kids loved them!
Here are each of our costumes ready to go along with a little surprise for each person.
Coming soon in another post!
And we are off..... 1 little Minion stayed home with Daddy, so it was a little easier on this Momma at the theater.
Our official portrait outside the theater.
And a few hours later... all the costumes ended up back on our dining room table in a pile....
I started the costumes on a Sunday and would have been finished by Wednesday without the Minion mini-skirt thrown in there..... See more about the costume making HERE!
Many things were learned in the process of making the costumes:
- I love doing this... my kids won't be little for long & if I can make something for them to enjoy while they will still wear it - yay! I'm going for it.
- the Minion movie was awesome!
- it was so much fun to go to the movies with the big group of friends & kiddos
- Going in costume does get a lot of stares & even ask to take your photo. We're famous now :)
- Fleece hats are Sew Easy to make... I will never have to buy another fleece hat & I can make them in to all kinds of monsters & fun things, while they are still young & will wear them.
Enjoy!
